An “Only in Japan” moment?

I was traveling to Rishikesh from Delhi few months back and its my habit to arrive early at airport and eat the tasty food at the airport lounge and wait for the flight. I was comfortably sitting and was waiting for the time to pass, I noticed a middle aged women came right infront of my seat and was preparing to settle down. I saw a red passport and figured out she was a Japanese.

I was enthusiastic and wanted to start a conversation with her as I am learning Japanese. When she settled down, hesitantly I asked her "Sumimasen, Nihonjin des ne" (Excuse me, you are a Japanese right). She replied "Yes" happily and she came and sat on the seat beside me.

Then we continued talking a talk in our broken Japanese and English and using translator for 1 hour maybe. Then I told her that I am going to Rishikesh for learning Yoga and next what she did was extremely warm and heart touching.

She opened her purse, pulled out a 5 yen Japanese coin and gave it to me.

She wished me good luck for my yoga class and gave that coin as a sign of good relationship.

Later I came to know that Japanese people usually offer 5 yen coin at shrines and it is considered pious.

It was such a nice gesture..!!!
